With an aim of educating future-ready professionals, the Faculty of Library and Information Science was established in 1989 at LBS PG College.The department aims at preparing future librarians, archivists, and other information professionals to work in a variety of settings including schools, colleges and universities, public and state libraries, and other settings. In the Department of Library and Information Science, we believe that information makes a profound difference in the lives of people, communities, and organizations. The Department of Information and Library Science is committed to excellence and innovation in the education of librarians and other information professionals, the creation of knowledge, and service in a diverse and changing global information environment. Currently, the Department offers graduation Course Bachelor in Library Science (B.Lib.) for providing better career opportunities to the students.

For B.Lib. Candidates, there are so many career options in government and private sector both. They can opt for employment or go for higher studies like M.Lib. course. They can work in various sectors as a Serial Librarian, Branch Librarian, Library Administrator, Reference Librarian, School Media Specialist, Web Services Librarian, Researcher, Cataloguer, and Information Analyst. In the present scenario, they have several options besides Librarian jobs. They can also look for electronic information resources too and keep track of new advanced features, databases, etc. They can get jobs Foreign Embassies, Museums and Galleries with reading rooms and Research facilities, News Agencies, Public/Private Libraries, Photo /Films Libraries.Some of the job posts available for B.Lib.
